Pleistocene Mammals from Pampean Region (Argentina). Biostratigraphic, Biogeographic, and Environmental Implications

چکیده
The Pampean Region contains sedimentary sequences with abundant mammal fossil records, which constitute the chronological outline of Plio–Pleistocene South America. These classic localities have been used for more than a century to correlate other American regions. Throughout this time, series misinterpretations appeared. To understand stratigraphic significance these and geochronological situation each unit referring Pleistocene, critical historical study antecedents was carried out, evaluating state unit. biostratigraphic studies Region’s mammalian faunas improved understanding biogeographic changes taking into account environmental fluctuations Pleistocene.

New Archaeological Evidences from the Late Pleistocene/Early Holocene Paso Otero 5 Site (Pampean Region, Argentina)
The archaeological knowledge of the early human occupations of the Pampean Region has improved through the finding of new archaeological sites dated between 10,000 and 11,200 RCYBP (Martínez et al. 2003; Politis 2003). Among them, Paso Otero 5 (Martínez 2001), chronologically located between ca. 10,000 and 10,400 years BP, is characterized by the presence of extinct megamammals and modern speci...
متن کاملChronology of the Late Cenozoic Patagonian glaciations and their correlation with biostratigraphic units of the Pampean region (Argentina)
The absolute chronology of the Patagonian glaciations is one of the most complete in the world and probably the best available for the Southern Hemisphere outside Antarctica. The oldest known Patagonian glaciations took place between approximately 7 and 5 Ma (Latest Miocene–Earliest Pliocene). A minimum of eight glaciations occurred in the Middle–Late Pliocene (Oxygen Isotopic Stages 54–82). Th...

Nematodes (Mermithidae) parasitizing grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Acrididae) in the Pampean region, Argentina.
This work provides the results of a survey of entomonematodes parasites of grasshoppers in grasslands of the Pampean Region, Argentina. Nymphs of Staurorhectus longicornis Giglio-Tos, Laplatacris dispar Rhen, 1939, Dichroplus elongatus Giglio-Tos, 1894 and Metaleptea brevicornis (L.) (Orthoptera: Acrididae) were collected. Mermithidae was the only family registered with seven species: Agamermis...
متن کاملSynchronous extinction of North America's Pleistocene mammals.
The late Pleistocene witnessed the extinction of 35 genera of North American mammals. The last appearance dates of 16 of these genera securely fall between 12,000 and 10,000 radiocarbon years ago (approximately 13,800-11,400 calendar years B.P.), although whether the absence of fossil occurrences for the remaining 19 genera from this time interval is the result of sampling error or temporally s...
